The French car maker has added a brand new model to Peugeot line. It’s the New Peugeot 5008, a model intended for big families who need to take advantage of the luxury and comfort throughout a long traveling. This vehicle is a compact MPV and it’s a diesel version has just been named as the best diesel car of 2010 by the experts of Diesel Car Magazine.

The 2010 Peugeot 5008 is Peugeot’s second new product offering in the large M1 car segment. This compact 5 to 7 seater people carrier provides numerous substantial advantages that will increase and reinforce Peugeot’s position in the family auto market. As soon as Peugeot 308 SW and the latest 3008 crossover, the Peugeot 5008, with a length of 4.53 m and a height of 1.64 m, is a natural extension to Peugeot’s current offerings in the M1 segment.

Relating to exterior style, the 5008 stands out with its balanced and especially unique profile. Its aerodynamic styling (Cx of .29 and Scx of .77) is similar to that of the TGV high speed train. It evokes fluidity and drive ability of the very highest order. The front of the automobile with its attractive profiled headlamps, steeply plunging bonnet which extends backwards towards the large front windscreen which is level with the front wheels, seems to be made to penetrate through the air in the most efficient way.

The Peugeot 5008 does look very smart, on the outside, with the newest family grille. Inside, the dashboards are spiffing. The cockpit is designed to wrap around the driver, and there’s a lot use of high quality plastics and nifty faux metal. There is also an option for a Head Up Display, which projects key information into the driver’s line of sight to allow them to pay attention to speed, the speed limiter setting, and the distance of the vehicle in front, with no needing to look down and way from the street ahead.

The “Distance Alert” enables the driver to choose what he considers to be a safe distance behind moving traffic in terms of seconds, from 0.9 to 2.5 seconds. Both these choices are presently uncommon in mass market automobiles, and are pricey choices if you are in the market for a BMW, Audi or Mercedes. On the Peugeot 5008, this is really offered on the top “Exclusive” model.

Peugeot 5008 has a bright and incredibly roomy interior. The area of the wide front windscreen (1.70 m²) is increased even further by the large panoramic glass roof (1.69 m²), one of the largest in the Peugeot range. Consequently, passengers take advantage from a bright interior and an excellent panoramic view of the outside. The next stage up, the Sport, costs about £1,200 more and adds things like cruise control, speed limiter, and numerous bits and pieces to add storage comfort plus some trim. The Exclusive range provides a panoramic glass roof, bigger wheels, better air conditioning, head up display and distance alert, more stuff to tart it up, Bluetooth and rear vision for parking. This adds another almost £2,000. There are 4 diesels and 2 petrol engines. The top of the line Exclusive has a 163 hp, two litre diesel with an automatic gearbox and costs £24,145.

Peugeot 5008 2010

The 2010 Peugeot 5008 will be offered with six latest-generation engines. Here is the complete detail of those engines are listed below:

Four diesel engines will be available:

  • 1.6 litre HDi FAP 110 bhp BVM6 – 5.4 litres/100 km and 143 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle
  • 1.6 litre HDi FAP 110 bhp BMP6 5.2 litres/100 km and 135 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle
  • 2.0 litre HDi FAP 150 bhp BVM6 Euro 5- 5.8 litres/100 km and 151 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle
  • 2.0 litre HDi FAP 163 bhp BVA6 Euro 5- 6.8 litres/100 km and 178 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle

And two petrol engines will be available:

  • 1.6 litre VTi 120 bhp BVM5 Euro 5 -7.3 litres/100 km and 169 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle
  • 1.6 litre VTi 156 bhp BVM5 Euro 5 -7.1 litres/100 km and 167 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle
