2011 Ford Edge

Ford Edge Review 2011 – The Ford Edge is the smaller of Ford’s midsize SUV cars which capable of providing far better handling and also smooth ride. This crossover SUV will get a major freshening, with revised styling, a new interior, and new engines. The new Edge has a more upscale feel and look, together with simplified controls through new interfacing technologies. It could haul up to 32 cubic feet of cargo and tow 3500 pounds. The automobile has been priced between $22,000 and $28,000.

The design of the new 2011 Ford Edge is totally modified as a result, giving it a fairly slimmer look in comparison to the first Edge we all know from 5 years ago.The new Edge has acquired a thorough remodeling of the entire front fascia, as well as modifications to the rear of the vehicle. The new grille immediately brings back memories of the original Ford Sport Trac Adrenaline concept, even though with a modern Fusion-esque style. Standard halogen headlamps are gone, replaced with projector headlamps for function and cosmetic attractiveness – HID projectors optional. Below, the standard fog lamp housings are already replaced with LED light bars, similar to those found on the Taurus SHO or upcoming 2011 Ford Fiesta.

Inside, the 2011 Ford Edge will get an all-new interior with classier styling that guarantees better-quality materials, more soundproofing to get a less noisy ride, more acoustic insulation and an all-around classier vibe versus existing automobile’s austere interior. Ford says that the new Edge will advantage from a comprehensive combination modifications aimed at decreasing noise in the cabin, including a new plus much more absorptive sound pack

throughout the interior, an acoustic headliner, a new robust engine cover, a number of subframe mount additions and upgrades, a laminated windshield, under-body shields and also a re-tuned exhaust system. The end result? Ford says the new Edge could have a quieter interior compared to more upscale Lexus RX350, Audi Q5 and Acura MDX models.

The Edge additionally will get Ford’s new MyFord Touch information and entertainment control system, which includes reconfigurable screens in the gauge cluster and a big touch screen in the middle console. These are handled by two 5-way controllers mounted on the spokes of the steering wheel.

Ford Edge comes available in 4 trim levels: Se, Sel, Limited and Sport and consumers will be able to select from three engines. The base engine is a brand new turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-4 mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. This new engine will give the Edge with a much more fuel efficient option – increasing fuel saving by 30 % within the original drive-train found in the Edge at launch. Even though unofficial now, we assume final fuel saving to be between 20 and 21 mpg city, and 31 highway. Power for this relatively diminutive power-plant is predicted to become in the realm of 230 hp, and 240 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is an option.

The Sel is driven with a 3.5-liter v-6 that will take advantage of the addition of Ti-VCT technology and improvements to the engine’s internal parts which result in a net output of 285 hp. In spite of the elevated power, Ford says this V6 will return 27 mpg on the highway – a 3 mpg gain over the last model with similar displacement.

The Edge Sport will enjoy, for the first time, an engine worthy of its name. The brand new 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 is basically the same V6 found in the new 2011 Mustang, and in the Edge it is good for 305 hp and 280 ft.-lb of torque. Like the new 3.5-liter V6, the 3.7-liter V6 will be mounted to a six-speed automatic transmission, but in contrast to the standard Edge, the Sport benefits class-exclusive paddle activation of the SelectShift transmission. Ford says that it tuned this system to provide optimum driver control, removing the forced redline shifting found in most manually shiftable automatic transmissions.

Lastly, the 2011 Edge features much more safety equipment than the existing model. It’s available safety features include ABS, traction control, anti-skid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. The easy fuel capless fuel-filler system, blind spot mirror, adaptive cruise control and crash warning with brake support, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert, and ykey are all either standard or available on Edge. The standard mykey feature enables Edge drivers to select keys that may restrict the car’s top speed and audio volume. Leave your comment regarding this Ford Edge review 2011.

I have this vehicle since it came out. Just not sure if it’s big enough for me. We down-sized back in ’03 from a GMC Denali, to a Lincoln Aviator. Gotta say, that was a GREAT move. Still have it, still love it. But, it IS getting old. Have well over 100K miles on it now, and wouldn’t mind retiring it. This would probably make a great replacement. Either this or an EcoBoost powered Flex. I’m still likely to be making trips to Home Depot and Lowes for some time, and therefore having room for at least 8ft lumber etc, is pretty much a requirement. 3rd row seating…still not sure but, would probably be nice to retain. But this “sport” version really has my attention.

What makes the 2011 Ford Edge stands out in its class is the MyFord Touch option..Also compared to other midsized affordable sedans, Edge uses

classy materials for the seating..The interiors and the seating are the most comfortable in its class..If you go for the Limited and Sports version of

Edge, the MyFord Touch option is standard, these models make the Ford Edge th best in the class of midsized sedans comfort wise, improving

manifold the quality of the ride. The controls for the car are similar to a mobile phone interface, which is a new technology incorporated in the

cars..The second row rear seat is esily foldable..If we add options like dual zone electronic temperature control,Sirius satellite radio, a six-way

power driver’s seat, power liftgate, heated front seats,SYNC infotainment system and navigation system, it can put Ford Edge in an enviable position

in the competitive midsized SUVs segment.

  • The new Edge features MyFord Touch, an interface composed of one 8-inch touch screen on the center stack and two 4.3-inch LCDs in the instrument cluster. A five-way steering wheel button controls the content of each instrument cluster LCD, letting the driver view trip information, navigation, audio, climate, and phone.

  • Also, you can not order any Mercury anymore. What’s on the lots and car transports is it. No more orders fleet or consumer whatsoever allowed. But if you count unsold cars on the lot as alive then Saturn and Pontiac are still alive too.
